The City's Fear

“You don’t have to go to the city son”

He told me as I broke the news

The new job that I just landed

After the interviews was mine at last.

It'd been years that I found that job.

He feared for my life going to the city

For he knew I would be lost in  the city.

The journey to a new life began,

To  the new chapter of a beginning,

To come back a changed being

And that my family life transit too.

I love the new city life,

The buildings, the men and women,

The language they speak ,

 I am home-

Away from home.

But what do I hate?

The city people have no kindness,

No compassion for a rural invader in the city.

My things they take when am not around,

And all, they remain quite and lock themselves in

Unlike the rural people,

Friendly and aid their own.

Dear daddy, I hope you are fine,

I hope my mama too.

Does she still smile at her thoughts about me?

Do you still believe that I ain’t meant to be here?

Dear Daddy, city life is weary,

But you don’t have to worry,

For your son is safe, and surely thinks about you.

Tell mama to keep praying for me.

Her blessings bountiful I need here.

To keep me safe and sound.

Another job promotion daddy dear,

I know I’ll be back soon there

As I promised last year,

It’s not been easy daily here

Work here work there,

My friends need me too and work -my way

To earn money and send it to you too

For your medicine.

Tell mama I’ll buy her another Christmas shoes should

I fail to come again this  festive season,

Daddy dear, I  know years have passed by ,

Till now I haven’t got the chance

To see my home from France

Again.

The place I grew to be loved and cared for,

Has become desolate in my mind

The once know rural boy has become Immersed in the town life.

A place I  once hated, made me strife.
