Parliament of Owls Summary.

Parliament of Owls is a play that Adipo Sidang has written in form of an Allegory to hide the impact of the text- moral, social religious and political issues. Parliament of Owls is a political set text in a birds kingdom under the mysterious leadership of King Tula Nyongoro. The Royal regime is under the night birds who consider themselves as the only birds that are above the law. They consider themselves to be more intelligent than other birds and they are the ones who can make sound statutes  to govern the kingdom.

The irony is that their regulations are biased and do not amount to the problems encountered in the kingdom. Amongst them is Oyundi the fire flinch that organises a political demonstration against the parliament of Owls in the quest for change. The irony is that this bird is considered one of the tamest species in Africa- it is a small bird. As a female character, this bird is a threat to the nocturnal birds the Owls in the Royal kingdom.  This quest for change is heightened by the death of Arum Tidi the hornbill who is also the Owl’s chief propagandist.

Oyundi conspired and came up with a witty plot that brings down and dismantles the role of the Royal Owl regime.

Despite the risk, Osogo has resoluted  his mission to expose the Royal Owls true nature. Assembling a group of revolution minded birds, they successfully overthrow the Royal Owl establishing a government that promises fairness and justice for all birds.

The parliament of Owls is a play full of symbolism and allegory. It is a satirical take on African politics with characters representing different facets s of African politicians and government officials. The play deals deeply into the themes of power, corruption tribalism and the pursuit of justice with a critical focus on the corrupting influence of power. In this play, every owl is corrupted by power in some way.Red String Puppet Owl, Money Bag- by greed, Socialite Owl- by vanity and Royal Owl- by ambition. The parliament of Owls thus is a serves as a stuck reminder of the perils of unchecked power in the ongoing struggle for justice.

In conclusion, the Parliament of Owls is a brilliant political satire that uses the metaphor of a bird’s kingdom to depict corruption and power dynamics. The story of Osogo’s quest to expose the Owl government is both engaging and thought provoking. It highlights the importance of speaking truth to power even in the face of danger. It exposes deeper themes such as corrupting influence of power and the struggle for justice.  Through its symbolism and allegory the Parliament of Owls offers a unique perspective on politics and governance. It highlights how bad leadership, tribalism and corruption can militate against the growth of the society.
